This is an encouraged and suggested practice. Regular racing is an excellent way to test out current fitness, progress training through the hardest workout you can do (racing) and a way to get in a dress rehearsal event for future goal races.There are quite a few Colorado races coming up this weekend that are being used as training races for many.These include;&nbsp;Georgetow [...] ]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class="paragraph">Many of you like to run fairly regular races as part of your build up for bigger, primary goal races later in the season. This is an encouraged and suggested practice. Regular racing is an excellent way to test out current fitness, progress training through the hardest workout you can do (racing) and a way to get in a dress rehearsal event for future goal races.<br />There are quite a few Colorado races coming up this weekend that are being used as training races for many.<br /><br />These include;&nbsp;<ul><li>Georgetown to Idaho Spring Half</li><li>Aspen Backcountry Half&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Mt Sneffles Half in Ouray</li><li>Sunrise Stampede 10K in Longmont</li></ul><br /><br />Here's my suggestion for adjusting this weeks training:<br /><br /><strong>Tues:&nbsp;</strong>Only do max 5 hill reps and don't push it - so first set and 2 on second set.&nbsp;<br /><strong>Weds:&nbsp;</strong>5 miles EZ<br /><strong>Thu:&nbsp;</strong>REST<br /><strong>Fri:</strong>&nbsp;35 mins EZ + 4 x 45 secs long striders (just faster than 5K pace ish - turn the legs over a bit without over-doing it)<br /><strong>Sat:</strong>&nbsp;RACE. WU 15-20 mins EZ, + our usual dynamic stretches and strides<br /><strong>Sun:</strong>&nbsp;15-20 mins very light run or 30 min walk (to shake out sore muscles)<br /><strong>Mon:&nbsp;</strong>20-40 mins very EZ run, depending on tiredness and how legs feel.<br /><br /><br /><strong>Strategy for GTIS Half </strong>(Since its a specific downhill type race)<br />Be careful not to go out too hard over the first 2 miles miles around the lake which are flat/undulating. Use the downhills to help with a nice smooth pace but roll along instead of trying to push it. Save a little energy and effort for the final 2.5 miles where you should push it on. He also coaches Masters swimming, Nordic Skate skiing and is a private Swim Instructor for all abilities. Peter began his swim coaching/instruction in College and continued ever since with continued refinement in methods, athlete success and satisfaction. Born in Northern Michigan, he started out as a competitive swimmer since the age of 9 in Budapest Hungary, while attending school for one year. He then continued with swim competition into High School (MVP his senior year) and College (Most Improved Freshman Year).&nbsp;<br><br>Noted performances included two consecutive years of competing in for the US @ Age Group Short Course World Championships in England (20th&nbsp;place) and New Zealand (7th&nbsp;place). Peter then chose to compete as a Professional Triathlete, where he competed for 13 years while also balancing a full time engineering career in the Medical Device field. I<br>invested more heavily in running while in grad school, when I had my first stint working with Revolution Running (then the Bolder Boulder Training Club). I coached for 2 Bolder Boulder 10K&rsquo;s, always making sure to demonstrate how to hit the slip n&rsquo; slide while keeping the target race time. ;) Running is all about<br>having fun for me, and you will see that in my coaching style. Don&rsquo;t worry, goals are also important to me too! After moving to Florida in 2008, I quickly began<br>connecting with local running groups and started coaching, while also pursuing my own running goals. I personally enjoy 10K and half marathon distances. That said, I have coached everyone from Couch to 5k runners, who just want to cover 3.1 miles for the first time in their lives, to a podium finisher at the Keys<br>50. I am a people person who just loves to make new acquaintances and educate and empower others to reach whatever the next step is in their life journey. From that day forward I swore I would never be undertrained again.&nbsp;</span><br><span style="color:rgb(98, 106, 113)">In 2006 I moved to Boulder CO to give it one more go at running, I joined the Boulder Distance Project under Steve Jones&rsquo; tutelage, and ran PR&rsquo;s in all road/trail distances. Learned from a legend and made friends that will be with me for the rest of my life. In Boulder I not only found the most beautiful place to live but the perfect career for my personality, skill set and values, in working for the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department.&nbsp;</span><br><br><span style="color:rgb(98, 106, 113)">I coached for Revolution Running from 2007 to 2010 primarily with the run the whole way and finish group. I met wonderful runners whom I still stayed friends with during my hiatus from coaching and running. He has coached all levels from college, high&nbsp;school, junior high,&nbsp;too&nbsp;numerous individual runners of all abilities.&nbsp;Steve has 29 years of running experience.<br>Running highlights include winning the 2011 Colorado Marathon at 38 years of age in 2:29:30, 2010 Horsetooth Half Marathon Winner, 2010 Colorado Half Marathon Winner, 2009 Colorado Marathon Runner Up. He also competed in the Master Marathon Championships a few years back at the Twin&nbsp;Cities Marathon where he placed 11th&nbsp;overall masters in 2:30:30. At 19 she completed her first marathon in Atlanta and fell in love with the longer distances.
