Ewen NorthEwen North has been head Coach and Director of RevolutionRunning (formerly BoldRunning) since 2005.
Born in Shrewsbury England, a competitive runner since the age of 7, Ewen has helped hundreds of runners improve and achieve their goals through the RevolutionRunning training program. A cross country and track school champion in his native England, Ewen spent his teenage years as a competitive mountain bike racer at the national level. He then returned to his first love, the sport of running at the age of 18 and decided to "get serious." Reaching the national level as a runner, he has competed in the British World Cross Country Trial and several other National Championship events. Ewen began his coaching experience as an assistant Coach at Adams State College in Colorado and also at The University of Nebraska Track and Field Team. He has a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology and Leisure Science with a specialization in Sports Psychology, adding to his wealth of knowledge and experiences as a coach. Ewen's main coaching philosophies are to promote health and fitness by creating a fun and interactive training environment. He believes that consistency is the key to improved fitness and that training should be kept simple and easy to understand. Ewen is still a competitive runner having competed at the NCAA Division I level for Oklahoma State University and in Division II for Adams State College, taking home all Big 12 honors and a third place team cross country championship in 2002. Ewen's coaching expertise comes from working with some of the nation's best coaches at Oklahoma State University, Adams State University, and while assistant coaching at the University of Nebraska. Ewen has also been personally coached by a plethora of highly acclaimed coaches which he has been greatly influenced by including; Ian Wainwright at Hallamshire Harriers Sheffield, UK, Mike Downs of the British Milers Club, Gary Staines, British Olympian, Steve Jones, former World Record Holder in the marathon, Dick Weis, Head Coach at Oklahoma State University, Damon Martin Adams StateUniversity Head Coach, who bases his training off of the legendary Joe Vigil's, and Mark Plaatjes, 1993 World Marathon Champion. He melds all of these coaching philosophies and strategies into his own unique brand and style of coaching. His schedules are developed to get the most out of the athletes while keeping them motivated and healthy. Ewen has gone on to win many races including the Eugene Marathon 5K, 2008, 2009 and 2010 Canyonlands Half Marathon and the 2007 Other Half, in Moab Utah, 2005 Lake Tahoe Half Marathon, and the 2005 and 06 Indian Summer 10K. He was also a member of the British Team at the 2006 BolderBoulder International Team challenge. Other notable performances are a 3rd place at the 08 Denver Half Marathon, 2nd place at the 06 Garden of the Gods 10 Miler, 4th Place finish at the 2006 Las Vegas Half Marathon and 13th at the Big Sur half Marathon. Ewen has completed six marathon's, Honolulu in 2005, Chicago in 2010/11, Eugene in 2012, Dallas in 2012 and Wineglass (NY) in 2013. He has a best of 2:28. |
